Azure DevOps Cloud Engineer
Five progressive stages from cloud and Git foundations to enterprise DevOps architect, with typical India (LPA) and USA (USD) salary ranges for 2026. The Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert needs one exam — AZ-400 (USD 165) — plus an associate prerequisite. Important 2026 update: AZ-204 (Azure Developer Associate) retired on 31 July 2026, so AZ-104 Azure Administrator Associate is now the only prerequisite you can still earn. Stages 4 and 5 are experience-based milestones, not separate exams.
Build the base: Linux and shell scripting, Git branching and pull requests, core Azure services (compute, storage, networking, Entra ID), and DevOps practice — CI/CD, infrastructure as code and the DORA metrics. The optional AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals exam (USD 99) is a low-risk first badge and never expires. No prior cloud experience needed.
The mandatory gateway to AZ-400. Manage Azure identities and governance, storage, compute, virtual networking, and monitoring. 100 minutes, 700/1000 to pass, no formal prerequisite, renewed free every 12 months. With AZ-204 retired on 31 July 2026, AZ-104 is the only DevOps Engineer Expert prerequisite still available to new candidates.
The flagship credential, and the track MindMajix prepares you for. Design build and release pipelines (50–55% of the exam), a source control strategy, processes and communications, a security and compliance plan, and an instrumentation strategy — across both Azure DevOps and GitHub. Exam refreshed 27 July 2026; 700/1000 to pass. AZ-104 must be earned first.
Own delivery at scale. Build internal developer platforms and golden paths, run AKS in production, manage multi-stage releases with approvals and gates, and set SLOs and error budgets. The optional GitHub Actions (GH-200) and GitHub Advanced Security certifications, USD 99 each, reinforce this stage. Experience-based milestone — no single Microsoft exam.
Own enterprise delivery strategy: Azure landing zones, multi-subscription governance, hybrid and multi-cloud CI/CD, compliance and FinOps. Microsoft publishes no DevOps architect exam — AZ-305 Azure Solutions Architect Expert (USD 165) is the closest credential. Typically 8+ years across development, operations and cloud.
