Helpful Background (Not Mandatory)
  • Certification prerequisite — to EARN Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert you must hold Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204) in addition to passing AZ-400
  • Important 2026 update — AZ-204 retired on 31 July 2026 and can no longer be earned or renewed; existing AZ-204 holders still qualify, but new candidates should plan on AZ-104 as the earnable prerequisite
  • Order is flexible — you may sit AZ-400 first, but the prerequisite must be earned within one year of passing AZ-400 for the Expert credential to be issued
  • Git and branching strategy fundamentals — used directly in Azure Repos, pull requests, and branch policies
  • Working Azure portal knowledge (resource groups, RBAC, Microsoft Entra ID) plus PowerShell or Bash scripting and YAML — the backbone of pipeline authoring
  • Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, or IaC (ARM/Bicep, Terraform) accelerates the CI/CD domains, which carry the heaviest exam weighting — none of these is mandatory to join; all are taught in-course

Azure DevOps Training FAQs

Can a fresher or non-IT person learn Azure DevOps?

Yes. You can start with Azure and DevOps fundamentals and hands-on work in Azure Boards, Repos, and Pipelines, which are largely portal-driven. Programming isn't required to begin — YAML, scripting, and containers are introduced gradually as you move toward pipeline and infrastructure work.

Do I need programming experience to start learning Azure DevOps?

Not to begin. Creating projects, tracking work items, and running your first build are configuration-driven. Scripting in PowerShell or Bash and authoring YAML pipelines become important later, when you build multi-stage CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code workflows.

What is the minimum qualification to enrol?

Any graduate from any discipline can enrol. There is no mandatory computer-science degree — basic computer literacy, logical aptitude, and consistent hands-on practice matter most. MindMajix delivers 40 hours of training covering both Azure and the DevOps toolchain.

Which Azure certification should a fresher target first?

Start with AZ-900 (Azure Fundamentals) to build cloud vocabulary, then target AZ-104 (Azure Administrator Associate). AZ-104 matters twice over: it is a strong standalone credential and it is the prerequisite certification you must hold to earn the DevOps Engineer Expert credential after passing AZ-400. Go straight for AZ-400 only after that groundwork.

Is Azure DevOps free to practise on as a beginner?

Yes. Azure DevOps has a free tier that covers small teams, including Azure Repos, Boards, and a monthly allowance of Microsoft-hosted pipeline minutes. Combined with an Azure free trial, that is enough to complete the labs and build a portfolio without paying for infrastructure.

Do I need AZ-104 or AZ-204 before taking AZ-400?

Not to sit the exam — but yes to earn the credential. Microsoft lists Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or Azure Developer Associate (AZ-204) as the prerequisite for DevOps Engineer Expert. You can pass AZ-400 first, but the Expert certification and badge are only issued once you hold a qualifying associate certification, and that must be earned within one year of your AZ-400 pass.

AZ-204 retired in July 2026 — which prerequisite should I take now?

AZ-104 (Azure Administrator Associate). Microsoft retired AZ-204, its certification, and its renewal assessment on 31 July 2026, so it can no longer be earned. If you already passed AZ-204 before that date, your credential still satisfies the prerequisite. Microsoft has indicated the replacement developer exam, AI-200, is expected to be added as a prerequisite, but until that is published on the certification page, AZ-104 is the reliable route.

I know Azure and Git — will my skills transfer to Azure DevOps?

Directly. Azure Repos is Git, so your branching and pull-request workflow carries over unchanged. Portal experience with resource groups, RBAC, and Microsoft Entra ID maps straight to service connections and deployment permissions, and PowerShell or Bash scripting is exactly what you'll use inside YAML pipeline tasks.

How long does it take an experienced professional to get AZ-400 certified?

Typically 8–16 weeks of part-time study and hands-on practice once the AZ-104 prerequisite is in place. AZ-400 requires a scaled score of 700 out of 1000 and costs US$165, with regional pricing and taxes varying by country. The English version of the exam was last updated on 27 July 2026.

Does the DevOps Engineer Expert certification expire?

Microsoft role-based certifications are valid for one year from the pass date and are renewed free of charge through an online assessment on Microsoft Learn, which opens six months before expiry. This applies to both AZ-400 and your AZ-104 prerequisite — keeping the associate certification current is worth planning into your schedule.

Is Azure DevOps still worth learning if my team uses GitHub Actions?

Yes — and the exam assumes both. AZ-400 explicitly covers Azure DevOps and GitHub together, including source-control strategy, pipelines, and GitHub Advanced Security. Most enterprises run a mix, so understanding how Azure Boards, Repos, and Pipelines integrate with GitHub is a practical advantage rather than a duplication.

What are the Main Objectives of this Azure DevOps training?

The primary objective of this Azure DevOps training is to equip you with the expertise to implement DevOps in Azure. It makes you proficient in different aspects of Azure and DevOps. Career Roadmap

Your Path to Becoming an Azure DevOps Expert

Five progressive stages from cloud and Git foundations to enterprise DevOps architect, with typical India (LPA) and USA (USD) salary ranges for 2026. The Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert needs one exam — AZ-400 (USD 165) — plus an associate prerequisite. Important 2026 update: AZ-204 (Azure Developer Associate) retired on 31 July 2026, so AZ-104 Azure Administrator Associate is now the only prerequisite you can still earn. Stages 4 and 5 are experience-based milestones, not separate exams.

STAGE 1 · BEGINNER

Cloud, Linux & DevOps Foundations

Build the base: Linux and shell scripting, Git branching and pull requests, core Azure services (compute, storage, networking, Entra ID), and DevOps practice — CI/CD, infrastructure as code and the DORA metrics. The optional AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals exam (USD 99) is a low-risk first badge and never expires. No prior cloud experience needed.

The mandatory gateway to AZ-400. Manage Azure identities and governance, storage, compute, virtual networking, and monitoring. 100 minutes, 700/1000 to pass, no formal prerequisite, renewed free every 12 months. With AZ-204 retired on 31 July 2026, AZ-104 is the only DevOps Engineer Expert prerequisite still available to new candidates.

The flagship credential, and the track MindMajix prepares you for. Design build and release pipelines (50–55% of the exam), a source control strategy, processes and communications, a security and compliance plan, and an instrumentation strategy — across both Azure DevOps and GitHub. Exam refreshed 27 July 2026; 700/1000 to pass. AZ-104 must be earned first.
